The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2024-07-31
I had never seen this movie before and my first time watching it was in a marathon of the trilogy, each extended to about a four hour runtime. I've only watched a few movies that skew into the four hour mark and they almost all feel like they could've been shortened by half of their runtime. Surprisingly 'Fellowship of the Ring' not only isn't a waste of time, but I struggle to understand how it wasn't four hours originally. Every second of the film is utilized in a seamless way that doesn't damper or drag the film down, but engages and builds the world these characters exist in. You're constantly enamored by the set pieces and locations these characters go to that you forget this movie was made in 2001, somehow rivaling current Marvel movies 20 years later. Every character in the main group serves their purposes in the story and not a single character feels out of place, underutilized or like they don't belong in this traveling group, reminding me of a Dungeons and Dragon campaign that you are playing with your friends. The only real negative is that the villain of this film doesn't demand much of a presence beyond being the evil Gandalf and its hard to take some moments seriously when I've seen them thousands of times in memes and parodies, not that that detracted from the film, more so just took away from serious moments. This is one of those once in a lifetime films you should consider giving a watch, even if you don't watch the next two, 'Fellowship of the Ring' has a great mix of story, characters and world building that will keep you engaged to end credits. Kung Fu Panda 2

One of, if not my favorite movies ever. Takes an already excellent foundation that was set by the first movie and elevates it to brand new heights, making the world feel larger and more connected thanks to its new antagonist that is a great contrast to Po and the Journey he goes on in this film. They do the impossible and have Jack Black play an emotional role where he struggles with who he is and what he is chooses to be himself throughout the film. The true beauty of the films message of identity is present throughout the dialogue and the front running characters with the protagonist learning to accept himself and find peace as the antagonist struggles and leads himself to his doom. Great choreographed fight scenes which is a given, even with the series worst movie, the characters serve their roles well but is mainly focused on the Dynamic between Shen and Po, which is one of the best hero vs villains stories ever told. Beyond an external vendetta of good vs evil, their is a personal vendetta between the two that is beautifully illustrated from start to end. No movie has in my opinion, reach the heights of this film and unfortunately may never be topped, even by its own series. Truly one of the greats! See Full Review

Deadpool & Wolverine

Fun rollercoaster ride with some dull emotional moments that don't carry a lot of weight to them. When it hits it stride, its one of the best Marvel movies and uses cameos in a more fun interesting way for the most part then others of the same vein. although when it doesn't hit, it feels like your watching the worst of the MCUs showcase, thankfully there is much more to enjoy then dislike here, the villain has some cool visual effects, Deadpool and Wolverine play off each other amazingly and the soundtrack is great, nice choices all-round. Moral Orel

Charming little series that doesn't show its full hand till then end of its second season. Pulls the Bojack Horseman of having seemingly inconsequential moments have a major impact later on before Bojack did it. Enjoyed the commentary on Christianity and more importantly the people who follow it. The negatives is that the 10 minute runtime doesn't allow for the stories to really flourish as they should which is why the best episode was a two parter, and some of the side character focused episodes aren't very interesting as some are based on background characters with one gag to them. Overall great underrated show that does dark humor well. See Full Review
